Language Lab
English is a funny language; that explains why we have ‘noses that run and feet that smell’!
‘If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth?’ — Author Unknown
This is why the Language Lab at FIS has a plethora of fun filled, ready to use activities and games that help our children absorb the subtleties and intricacies of this language. Crosswords, word searches, snakes and ladders with antonyms and synonyms, scrambled words, word origins, word puzzles and literary activities like spelling bee, dramatization, appreciation of great prose and poetry as well as grammar games such as scavenger hunting for nouns or playing ‘lost and found’ for adjectives, are all a part of what our children look forward to during the language lab classes.
They develop a spirit of friendly competition as they deliberate and debate on a wide range of topics; this helps them to think objectively and critically.
Listening skills are honed by a number of activities such as ‘What’s missing?’ or ‘What’s wrong with it?’ or taped extracts of discussions, news reading, and conversations etc. which help the children explore the nuances of language even further.
Samuel Johnson once said, “Language is the dress of thought,” and we at FIS believe that our children should be dressed appropriately for all occasions.
